Think Critically and Reflectively
Develops a personal vision of inclusive educational practice
Artifact: Reflection on My Vision of an Exemplary Educator, EDCI564
When I first came into this program, I did not make a strong connection between technology and meaningful learning. I viewed the technology as a vessel for learning and that was it. In Integration and Management of Computers in Education, EDCI564, I had to reflect on my vision of what an exemplary technology educator is to me. My growth in this program has made me realize that it has more to do with creating meaningful learning experiences. In my vision statement, I wrote, "It’s about creating meaningful learning by inquiring, experimenting, designing, communicating, collaborating, writing, modeling and visualizing with technologies." I have learned in this program that this aspect is important within the practices of instructional design. As this field continues to evolve, my goal is to reflect on my vision of an exemplary technology educator and adjust it based on the most current trends.
Describes the relationship between Educational Technology and the broader field of Education
Artifact: Defining Educational Technology, EDCI513
In Foundations of Learning Design and Technology, EDCI513, I had to determine my initial definition of educational technology in the beginning of the course and adjust it towards the end. At the end of the course, I developed a stronger connection between the relationship of technology and education. I included what I see as the backbone of education and that is the theory behind learning. In my final definition, I state that educational technology "systematically utilizing media and technologies to deliver and enhance learning by using learning theories and concepts that help facilitate the learning process." Since instructional design is an evolving field, this is another concept that I will evaluate as I continue to learn and work in this field.
Critically evaluates theory and practice
Artifact: Rapid Prototyping Presentation, EDCI513
For this competency, I am sharing a group project from Foundations of Learning Design and Technology, EDCI513. We were asked to evaluate a practice in learning design and our group selected Rapid Prototyping. This presentation shows that as a group we critically evaluated this practice, effectively identifying the advantages and disadvantages of utilizing this concept. We also incorporated a comparison of rapid prototyping with the classic design process that shows an understanding of this concept compared to other ways of aiming at the same goal. This is also an important aspect of critically evaluating theories and practices in learning design. As I continue to grow in this field, this is a concept I will continue to research and find applicable ways of incorporating this knowledge in my projects. I see that being able to critically evaluate practices is important in finding the best solution to a learning design problem.
