Apply Instructional Design Principles
Identifies and analyzes learning and performance problems
Artifact: Abby Carlin Case Analysis, EDCI672
Advanced Practices in Learning Systems Design, EDCI672, was case-based learning where I had to analyze case studies for potential solutions to a learning design problem. For this artifact, I chose the Abby Carlin case study. I had to identify the stakeholders and analyze the learning and performance problems. On page six of the artifact, I state that "after I was able to relate to the unique training scenario, I feel like I was able to see a clear plan that would help Abby in this case." Being able to relate to a case study back to your previous experiences is helpful in understanding and analyzing learning problems. This is a helpful concept to incorporate in developing a critical eye and analytical skills since it helps lead to the best potential outcome of the learning design. As I grow in this field, I will move forward with developing this skill and work to analyze learning design problems with purpose.
Design, plans, and develops instructional interventions using appropriate strategies and techniques
Artifact: Learning Design Activities for the Development of PowerPoint for Learning, EDCI575
Artifact: PowerPoint for Learning Course, EDCI575
Here I share two artifacts that demonstrate my ability to design, plan and develop instructional interventions that use the appropriate strategies and techniques that I have learned in this program. In Foundations of Distance Learning, EDCI575, I had to plan and design a course utilizing a learning management system. I chose to focus on PowerPoint. In the first artifact, the learning design activities were part of the planning process. There were six stages in the process that included conducting a learning context analysis, conducting a learner analysis, content task analysis, planning the content, assessments and evaluation and lastly, the media selection. With this artifact, I demonstrate my ability to design and plan using appropriate strategies for my PowerPoint course by utilizing a pyramid-type process. This exercise was good practice for developing a course. The second artifact is the link to the actual course which was developed in Blackboard's CourseSmart.
Develops an evaluation plan for a project based on stated goals and recognized standards
Artifact: Technology Integration Project, EDCI564
Artifact: Evaluation of an Instructional Product, EDCI672
Artifact: The Evaluation Plan, EDCI672
There are three artifacts where I demonstrate this competency. The first is from Integration and Management of Computers in Education, EDCI564, where I had to design a learning module that focused on an aspect of technology integration. The next two artifacts are from Strategic Evaluation and Assessment, EDCI672, where I had to develop evaluation plans for an existing instructional product and one for a proposed evaluation plan. In each of these artifacts, I designed a specific evaluation plan based on the strategy needed for each.
In the Technology Integrated Project proposal, I list following four ISTE standards that apply. These standards align well with the goals of the course so I see that I clearly demonstrate this competency by being able to recognize what applies.
The Evaluation of an Instructional Product and the Evaluation Plan also demonstrates this competency as well. Both evaluation plans are based on the Kirkpatrick Model of Evaluation which is a common model used in this field. This model is an effective process that leads to the identification of whether or not the training was successful and how the training can be improved. In both evaluations, I make clear connections to the Kirkpatrick model and the goals of the training. For example, on page five of the Evaluation Plan, I state, " the goals and objectives of this evaluation are based on Kirkpatrick’s model for evaluating training programs listed in the following table. The ultimate goal will be to train employees to effectively execute the new contract terms with State Farm customers and to meet or exceed the Net Promoter score goal of 60%. This evaluation plan will allow stakeholders to gather the necessary data to ensure the transfer of knowledge." With this example and the following table from page six of the Evaluation Plan, I clearly state the evaluation goals as related to each level in the Kirkpatrick model.

- Design and develop digital-age learning experiences and assessments
- Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity
- Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become the active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress
- Customize and personalize learning activities to address students; diverse learning styles, working strategies and abilities using digital tools and resources
